PISA 2025 — National Launch in Tajikistan

PISA 2025 is the ninth cycle of the global assessment since it began in 2000, involving more than 760,000 students representing 33 million 15-year-olds across 91 countries and economies. The cycle welcomed several first-time participants, including Armenia, Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Ecuador, Kenya, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Rwanda and Zambia.

While continuing to assess reading, mathematics and science literacy, PISA 2025 placed special emphasis on science, and introduced a new domain — Learning in the Digital World — assessing computational problem-solving and self-regulated learning. Findings on computational problem-solving are published in September 2026; the analysis of self-regulated learning and metacognitive strategies will follow in 2027.

Tajikistan reached an important milestone with its first participation in this cycle. Administered across 160 educational institutions in Dushanbe City, the assessment established the first internationally comparable baseline for the functional literacy and practical skills of 15-year-old students in Dushanbe.

The National Launch presents the first internationally comparable PISA 2025 results for 15-year-old students in Dushanbe, considers them in an international context, and discusses how the findings can serve as a baseline for future monitoring and education policy improvement.
